LA PALMA (CANARY ISLANDS)

 
  

La Palma, la isla bonita, or the beautiful island, is situated in the north-west of the Canary Archipelago.

 The position of the island affords an exceptionally mild climate all year round. Even though the island is small (706Km2), La Palma offers a huge variety of landscapes such as: steep cliffs, volcanoes, an impressive erosion crater, laurel and pine forests.The highest peak is the Roque de Los Muchachos (2.426m).  The accommodation “Las Tias” refers to the aunts, the original owners who lived in these rural, typical houses of La Palma.

The houses dated from 1825, are restored and fitted with modern conveniences. They are located in the nature area of Cabezadas, in the municipality of Tijarafe.

 In “Las Tias”, you have an amazing view on the Atlantic Ocean, you can watch the sunset and settle down in an enjoyable atmosphere.

 In the neighbourhood of  Las Tias are many places of interest such as:

 - The North with its green vegetation and cut through by deep ravines, formed by 

erosion of water and wind. The picturesquely villages of El Tablado, Franceses and Gallegos, quiet and far away of mass tourism.

- Roque de Los Muchachos and the astrophysics complex, the most important observatory in Europe.

- The Caldera de Taburiente, national park  is a gigantic erosion crater or caldera, covered by pine woods and inside the river Taburiente.

  1. - A part of the old footpath, the “Camino Real” or “Royal Route” goes from Tijarafe to El Time, a viewpoint on the Aridane Valley.
  2. - In Tazacorte and Puerto Naos are fine volcanic-sand beaches on respectively 20 and 35 minutes oriving from Las Tias.
  3. -Los Llanos de Aridane lies on 40 minutes driving from Las Tias. This charming village has beautiful, coloured houses and a cosy square, the Plaza de España, meeting point for palmeroos and tourists.

  Further from Las Tias but surely worth to visit are:

-         El Bosque de Los Tilos, the laurel forests, in 1983 has been declared a Biosphere reserve by the UNESCO. And the springs of Marcos and Cordero near Los Sauces.

  1. -         The Volcanoes in the south. The landscape is dominated by black lava fields and crater fissures. The last volcanic eruption was in 1.971, the Teneguía.
  2. -         The capital Santa Cruz de La Palma with its narrow streets and historical balconies. Once, the harbour was the third main port and you can still feel the atmosphere of the past.

During your holiday in “Las Tias”, you can discover all these places of interest on different ways:

Hiking, Horse-Riding, Mountain-Bike, Paragliding, Speleology and Vulcan-Speleology, Diving, Fishing, Hunting, Boat-or bus Excursions, Visit to bird – and Botanic Gardens, Museum.
